Crafts Made Easy: Use Things Around Your House

I have loved arts and crafts since I was a tiny child. I remember looking around for anything I could use to create something beautiful. Recently I decorated my home with arts and crafts that were given to me by a good friend. It was my best work yet.

I wanted an exotic feel to my home with my own unique touch. I had a box of old shears in various colors and I decided to use them for an uncommon purpose, as wall hangings. I had seen many women use quilts as wall hangings, why not shears? I took a tool from the South East Asian style of beauty and I created something that looked like a Geisha gown. I used 4 shears, tied and pinned them together with a large beautifully flowing bow at the top. I used a darker silver pair of shears on the bottom and a copper color on top. This gave the material a multi-dimensional look. The colors matched my amber, ivory and silver dinning room perfectly. I hung it on the wall just above my large cedar chest that held a copper centerpiece, ivory colored animal trinkets, a photo album and baby books. It was an awesome sight! I received more compliments on the wall hanging then on any other thing in my home. Everyone loved it.

To accent the room further I applied long, light, silver colored sheers above my Japanese style chair in the corner of the room. I took an old pair of silver, satin curtains and made a chair cover. Hanging under the sheers was a long silver lantern with very soft light. Across from it were a large ivory floor lantern and a smaller one sitting atop the chest. The room looked like a romantic and exotic hideaway!
